Festivals in Khezhakeno celebrate ancient Tenyimi ancestral origins, agricultural renewal, and spiritual purification, deeply rooted in the agrarian rhythms of the Khezha Chakhesang people.
Tsükhenyie Festival
April 24 – 27 annually
The principal agricultural and purification festival of the Khezha Chakhesang community. Tsükhenyie marks the conclusion of all winter leisure activities and heralds the start of the vital paddy-sowing season. The celebration begins with a sacred dawn ritual where men and boys bathe in natural village springs to cleanse body and tools. The festival features 4 days of community feasting, traditional Naga wrestling (Kene), choral folk singing, and colorful traditional attire displays.
Sükhrünye Festival
January 14 – 16 annually
The sacred mid-winter festival of spiritual sanctification and youth purification celebrated across the Chakhesang territory. Rituals involve sanctifying village homes, inaugurating newly initiated youths into clan responsibilities, and invoking blessings for community health and plentiful crop yields.
Chida People's Festival
Early December (Coinciding with Hornbill Festival)
An annual cultural eco-festival hosted at Chida Lake and Chida Post, featuring ethnic food stalls, indigenous archery and catapult competitions, live folk music, camping under the stars, and traditional crafts exhibitions against the backdrop of the Kapamüdzü mountain ridge.
