Every Nezo tour package includes seamless online permit documentation and pre-cleared checkpost entry passes.
Understanding entry permits is critical for hassle-free travel in Nagaland:
1. Domestic Indian Citizens — Inner Line Permit (ILP)
Under the historic Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is a **mandatory legal requirement** for all non-resident Indian citizens visiting Nagaland.
- Official Application Portal: Apply online exclusively at ilp.nagaland.gov.in.
- Permit Types & Duration: Tourist ILP is issued with a standard validity of 30 days. Extensions can be obtained through the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) Office in Kohima or Dimapur.
- Required Documents: Digital copy of government photo ID (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or Passport), passport-size photograph, and hotel booking voucher or Nezo tour itinerary confirmation.
- Processing Time & Fee: Official fee is ₹200 per person for domestic tourists (30 days validity) and ₹500 for foreign tourists (plus nominal payment gateway charges); applications are processed online within 24 to 48 hours.
- Verification Checkpoints: Physical printed copies of your e-ILP must be presented at the Chumoukedima checkpost on NH29, Dimapur Railway Station gate, Khuzama border gate (from Manipur), and Tsutapela gate (from Assam).
2. Foreign Nationals — PAP Relaxation & FRO Registration
The Protected Area Permit (PAP) regime has been **relaxed and suspended** for Nagaland by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) since 2011 to encourage international tourism.
- General Foreign Tourists: Foreign passport holders (including tourists, NRIs, and OCIs) do NOT require an ILP or prior central PAP permit.
- Exceptions: Citizens of Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan still require prior written permission and security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
- Mandatory 24-Hour FRO Registration: All foreign travelers must complete routine registration with the Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) / Local Superintendent of Police (SP) Office within 24 hours of arrival in Nagaland. Reputable hotel front desks and Nezo tour directors handle this paperwork seamlessly.
