Ascend switchbacks as vegetation shifts to alpine rhododendron and snowfields. Cross the majestic Sela Pass (4,170 m) and gaze upon the sacred turquoise waters of Sela Lake. Experience transit through the newly operational twin-tube Sela Tunnel.

Descend towards Jang to marvel at Nuranang Falls, a spectacular 100-meter sheer curtain of glacial water crashing into the Tawang Chu river, named after the brave Monpa girl Nura.

Drive the final scenic stretch into Tawang (3,048 m / 10,000 ft). Check into your heated accommodation, hydrate with warm herbal tea, and rest to adjust to the elevation.

Tour the largest monastery in India and 2nd largest in the world, founded in 1680–81 by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso. Visit the 3-story Dukhang (assembly hall), the library of sacred scriptures, and the 28-foot gilded Buddha statue.

Visit the peaceful 14th-century Urgelling Monastery, sacred birthplace of Tsangyang Gyatso (the 6th Dalai Lama). Then ascend to Gyangong Ani Gompa, a serene hilltop nunnery housing over 50 Buddhist nuns.

Pay tribute to the 2,420 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Attend the stirring evening Light and Sound Show that narrates the heroic border defense history.

Climb via Y-Junction past the stark glacial waters of Nagula Lake (4,100 m) to the Indo-China frontier at Bum La Pass. Stand at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), visit the Rock of Peace, and interact with the Indian Army jawans on the high border.

Traverse alpine tundra to Sangetsar Tso (3,700 m / 12,140 ft), famously known as Madhuri Lake. Formed by a massive earthquake in 1950, marvel at the dead pine tree trunks rising eerily from the crystal clear glacial water, and enjoy hot army snacks by the lake.

On the return descent to Tawang, pause at Panga Teng Tso (3,910 m / 12,828 ft). Admire the sacred high-altitude lake surrounded by alpine turf, rhododendron slopes, and colorful Buddhist prayer flags snapping in the mountain wind.

Stop at the poignant Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Having witnessed the brutal high-altitude terrain at Bum La, feel the profound weight of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat's 72-hour solo stand in 1962. Walk through his preserved bunker and savor hot army tea.

Re-cross Sela Tunnel and descend into Dirang to explore Dirang Dzong, a 17th-century fortified stone Monpa settlement. Walk along the riverbank past local kiwi and apple orchards.

Arrive in Bomdila (2,415 m) and visit the Upper Gompa at sunset. Witness the monks' evening prayers and take in vistas of Kangto and Gorichen Himalayan peaks bathed in evening light.

Depart Bomdila via the smooth Kalaktang-Shergaon Trans-Himalayan Highway. Wind past pine woodlands and alpine apple farms, descending to Bhairabkunda at the tri-junction of Assam, Arunachal, and Bhutan for a relaxing lunch.

Arrive in Guwahati by late afternoon and transfer directly to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) or Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) for your onward flight/train.
